I took an evening flight with Iberia’s regional airline division and arrived late in the evening in Madrid from Tenerife. I crashed at my friend’s place for the weekend. I came to celebrate her birthday. Since it was on my way back home to Switzerland, I thought I’d stop in Madrid and be there for the special day.

Painting in a cafe
One day, we had a reservation at a special cafe. While having coffee/tea, we could paint a ceramic cup or a vase. Afterwards, we could return them to the staff. They sent it to a place where they put it into a kind of oven at high temperatures. In there, the colour starts to glaze and persist. A couple of weeks later, it was time to pick it up. It was a fun experiment, and I realised I wasn’t used to working with my hands or being creative that way. While my friend did a pretty nice cup, I painted like a 5-year-old.

Afterwards, we walked around the city centre and ended up at an ice rink with some friends. There we rented skates and had a couple of rounds on the ice. My friends were all Latinas, so they didn’t have much experience on skates and didn’t make much progress. They were always on the side, on the railing. It was fun anyway, and we had some fun talks over the evening. Afterwards, we walked around the city and found a Peruvian place. That was a sign since the “birthday kid” was Peruvian. So we entered and had some Peruvian food. My friend was in heaven. They also had her favourite cocktail – Chilcano. I like some Peruvian dishes too, and I was happy to order again since it’s rare to find Peruvian food outside of Peru (Ají de gallina).

The weekend has already come to an end. The next morning, we had breakfast and an overall slow start into the day. The weather wasn’t great, and it was kind of cold. So preferred to stay inside and talk. Then I took a taxi to the airport and flew back to Switzerland.
